Ashok
Handoo has had an outstanding
career in the Indian Army for 37 years,
during which he has risen to the rank
of Lieutenant General and the appointment
of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief,
Northern Command.
During his illustrious career he has
taken part in operations in the Jhakargha
Sector during the Indo-Pak war in 1971,
with distinction.
For his outstanding qualities as a soldier
he has invariably been selected, out
of turn for special assignments and
courses. He had the unique distinction
of raising the first Guided Missile
Battalion of the Indian Army. He has
also been selected by Army Headquarters
for advanced specialization courses
at United Kingdom and France at the
National Defence college in India.
He has the distinction of being appointed
Colonel of brigade of the Guards, a
mush coveted and rare honour in the
Indian Army.
The President of India has conferred
on him the Param Vishisht Seva Medal
for Distinguished Service of the Most
Exceptional Order.
Ashok Handoo has thus distinguished
himself as an eminent Old Boy of The
Scindia School.
The Scindia School confers on Ashok
Handoo the Madhav Award as an Old Boy
of Distinction for the year 1986.
