Art is an integral part of
the Scindia School. From time immemorial
it has been a media of expression of
vibrant human emotions like love, lust,
joy, grief, anger, etc. Words fail
to express our thoughts in that effective
manner in which any form of art can
do. Art provides a broader perspective
to the human mind.
Coming to the more specific terms, i.e. talking about the Art Department of
the Scindia School, it can be said that the spontaneous flow of emotions which
ultimately takes the form of a sculpture or a painting, gives a student the
emancipation of expression.
Sometimes, classrooms get a bit boring. At that time, the art room acts as
a source of refreshment. It is a department in which the students feel very
free to discuss among themselves and with the teachers, because it is on the
platform of autonomy that all forms of art thrives.
All these kept aside, to be able to use art as a media of expression what is
needed is practice. The practice that is needed here isn't arduous but amusing.
The three very good jurors of art, i.e. our teachers are completely engrossed
in guiding at every step so that we can learn. Where else would one find three
eminent teachers of art from the renowned Shantiniketan sitting together to
bring out the best in their students? Their difference in opinion and views
collectively produce an enchanting effect. One of them is Mr. M. K. Chowdhary,
who is the best for sketches and his figure drawings. Second is Mr. A. Ghosh,
who is extra-ordinary in painting with water and crayons and sculpture. And
the third one is Mr. Debdutta Nath, whose graphic paintings are fascinating . But their
combined work determines the glory of this department.
The society is very rich in paintings, glass paintings, batik, pastel and sketches.
Boys are provided with sheets crayons, water colours, and other equipments
from the department.
They are encouraged to gather their creativity on their sheets with colours.
Their art is displayed on the School corridor and exibitted during the Founder's
day too. Boys are exceptionally good at pastel colours. They are also taught
to make posters, collages and cartoons too which gives a strong impact on their
mind and nourished their creativity.
The boys are supposed to be working throughout the year. They start off with,
doing their art in their drawing books and end up on huge art sheets and finally
on boards. They are sent for regular art competitions held at other schools
in the city.
