The Founder Late Maharaja Madhavrao Jayaji Rao Scindia
From the Desk of Principal to Parent
I wish to take this opportunity to share with you some of the developments, initiatives and the thinking at the school.
As you know, at Scindia School we are not concerned with merely the academic results of children. Our attempt has always been to provide students with a multitude of enriching experiences. Our teachers strive hard to equip students with varied skills and perspectives, be it efficient study skills, effective communication skills or an acute awareness of the world around them.
Over the last year or two, we have constructed 2 new houses for students. A well-equipped gymnasium has been added and ranges for shooting and archery have been created. Before the beginning of the next academic term, we intend that the furniture in classrooms be replaced with new and more ergonomic desks and chairs. Our computer facilities are still among the best in the country and we offer considerable financial assistance to deserving candidates. I want to assure that our team of teachers is among the most competent and dedicated one. And, the school continues to grow in Indian traditions while sporting a contemporary approach and outlook.
You would agree with me that to keep the infrastructure (in some cases over 100 years old) modern, to retain and attract good teachers and to provide the best facilities to our students are formidable challenges and demand our constant and meticulous attention. We are exploring efficient energy-saving and water harvesting methodologies and soon suitable equipment will be put in place. As a lot of you may be aware, there has been an acute water shortage in Gwalior and more so on the Fort. We are actively addressing this problem and hope that the situation will be much better when the boys return after their vacation.
While we have tried our best to keep the expenses as low as possible and have substantially improved our internal audit system, it has just not been possible to manage these within the current fee structure.
Our annual increases for the last few years have barely been able to meet the costs of inflation that averages to about 8.5 % considering that we met the capital expenses from the fees alone. Therefore, in the last meeting of the Board Members, it was decided that starting academic year 2008-2009, the annual school fee will increase to Rs. 1,98,000/- from the previous year’s Rs. 1,58,800/-
Apart from the factors mentioned above, this will enable us upgrade some of the other facilities further and also provide a fillip to our scholarship programme whose funding has been more than doubled. You will agree that a diverse student body implies healthier and more enriching interactions among the community.
I sincerely solicit your cooperation in our endeavor; in able preparing our students to meet the challenges of living and functioning caringly and confidently in the society, in promoting academic excellence by providing a vibrant academic environment; and of cherishing the inherent joys of childhood.
Best regards,
N K TEWARI
