Launch of Sambhav in Collaboration with TERI: Mission LIFE Mega Awareness Campaign on Minimising Plastic Waste

The Sambhav initiative was formally launched at The Scindia School in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), marking a significant milestone in the school’s journey towards environmental responsibility and sustainable living. The programme seeks to transform citizens into action-oriented environmental stewards, with a focused effort on minimising plastic waste in Gwalior city.
The initiative aims to create widespread awareness among students and the larger community about the urgent need to reduce and decisively discourage the use of single-use plastic, while promoting sustainable alternatives such as eco-friendly cloth bags.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal described the launch as a historic moment for both the school and the city. Emphasising the urgency of adopting minimal plastic usage, he urged students to become catalysts for change through thoughtful planning and conscious daily choices. Echoing the ethos of sustainability, he reminded the audience that there is no other home—only one Earth—and that sustainable living is no longer optional but a collective responsibility.
In his address, Dr P. K. Bhattacharya, Director, Knowledge Research Centre at TERI, offered valuable insights into the escalating challenge of plastic pollution. He outlined practical processes to address the issue and shared effective strategies to minimise reliance on single-use plastics, highlighting the power of informed decision-making and collective action in driving lasting environmental impact.
The programme is supported by a grant from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, enabling The Scindia School and TERI to implement the mission through sustained awareness campaigns, and distribution of cloth bags made from used and discarded clothes.
The launch of Sambhav reaffirmed the school’s commitment to environmental leadership and inspired students to translate awareness into purposeful and measurable action.
