The Annual English Play –Great Expectations was staged at The Scindia School’s Shukla Memorial Open Air Theatre on 21 April 2024. The play was a grand success and was profusely applauded by the audience. With a cast and crew of forty five student members and six teachers of the English Department, the play highlighted several themes relevant to the human situation. The play was put up by the English Literary Society which is the oldest literary society of the school instituted as early as the years of the 1930s. Over the years, the literary society has put up numerous fantabulous plays, spread over the vast domain of literature drawn from all walks of life and all the countries of the world. In the recent years we have staged- Macbeth, The Wizard of Oz, Midsummer Nights’ Dream, Tempest, Aladdin, and the list goes on. The play 'Great Expectations' was based on the novel of the same name by Charles Dickens. The play bespoke of a fairy tale atmosphere but develops into an allegory which at last becomes “an ordinary, human pilgrimage”. Krishlee Pathak, Prataksh Sharma, Fravash Vikamsey, Rohil Sharma, Lokesh Awasthy, Lakshy Arora, Ayush Kumar Garg, Devansh Harlalka played the main actors. The dancers stole the spotlight with their superb moves adding to the splendor of the play. Shaurya Prakash, Neev Agarwal and Devansh Agarwal took care of the light and sound and stage requirements alongwith other student members. The Principal, Mr Ajay Singh profusely appreciated the play and talked about the lessons which can be learnt from the play. He also appreciated the main leads for their superb acting skills.
