A Grand Success: The 23rd Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia Inter-School Hindi Debate and the Inaugural Pi Summit at The Scindia School
The Scindia School, Gwalior, successfully hosted a two-day event from September 29-30, 2024, bringing together 15 prestigious schools from across India. The event marked the 23rd edition of the Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia Inter-School Hindi Debate Competition and the inaugural Pi Summit, a unique platform for celebrating both linguistic and mathematical prowess.
The opening ceremony on September 29 kicked off with a vibrant cultural performance and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, setting the stage for two days of intellectual competition. The Pi Summit, organized by the Mathematics Department, featured a keynote address by Professor Shanta Laishram from ISI Delhi. Professor Laishram delivered an inspiring talk on the applications of mathematics in cryptography and the importance of problem-solving through mathematical Olympiads. Principal Mr. Ajay Singh encouraged students to view mathematics as an enjoyable challenge, fostering a spirit of learning and exploration.
The Hindi Debate Competition saw teams from leading schools engage in rounds of passionate discussions, culminating in the final debate on September 30. The topic, "Countries should limit the number of tourists to protect the environment," spurred lively arguments from both sides, with schools presenting well-researched positions for and against the motion.
Adding to the excitement, students participated in Pi-themed activities such as "Escape the Pi-rates Den" and interactive workshops like "Sym-PI-sium" and "Pi-Pi Ka Hisab," which merged fun with learning.
The concluding ceremony on September 30 celebrated the hard-fought victories and outstanding achievements in both debate and mathematics. Key winners included:
Vivek Singh from The Scindia School, Gwalior, who was declared Best Speaker for the motion in the debate. Amayra Kher from Vasant Valley School, New Delhi, who earned the title of Best Speaker against the motion. Yamini Singh from Pinegrove School, Subathu, who secured 1st place in the storytelling contest "Buno Kahani, Kaho Zubani."
The Scindia School, Gwalior, won the prestigious 23rd Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia Inter-School Hindi Debate trophy. In the Pi Summit Quiz, The Scindia School, Gwalior, and Vasant Valley School, New Delhi, were declared joint winners.
The event concluded with the enthusiastic participation of students and teachers alike, creating an atmosphere of learning, collaboration, and celebration. Insightful adjudication by historians and language scholars, as well as the presence of renowned experts, ensured the success of the event, which promises to become an annual tradition.
