Youth Parliament 2025

On August 17, The Scindia School staged a spirited Youth Parliament, plunging students into a lively debate on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). With participants playing the roles of leading national politicians—Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, Nirmala Sitharaman, Amit Shah, and others—the exercise became a powerful lesson in India’s democratic process and law-making.
The UCC, which proposes a single set of laws for marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption for all citizens regardless of religion, proved to be an electrifying topic. Delegates were divided, mirroring actual party lines, arguing over equality, secularism, and integration versus the protection of religious freedom and minority rights. Supporters of the UCC called it a step towards equal rights for all, especially for women, and a way to modernize outdated laws. Its critics countered that personal laws are closely tied to religious and cultural identity, and that enforcing a single code could threaten India’s diversity.
Students drew on real cases like Shah Bano and referenced the Goa Civil Code as a working example, demonstrating impressive research and grasp of the complexities involved. The session stood out for its vibrant cross-party exchanges and the ability of students to respectfully challenge one another, reflecting the spirit of healthy democracy.
Scored on their communication, preparation, and engagement, participants left with a deeper understanding of the issues dividing lawmakers—and how constructive debate can drive progress. The event was a compelling reminder that today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders.
