Mr Anshul Verma, guest faculty, and Mr Chetan Bhatia, faculty of English, conducted a two-day workshop on debating from 17th to 18th July 2025 for members of the English Debating Society and other enthusiastic students. The sessions were highly engaging, offering participants insights into argumentation, rebuttal strategies, and public speaking.
On the second day, Mr Verma proposed a unique idea—"The Scindian 1.0," a two-day debating competition entirely managed and judged by the student body. The initiative saw the formation of eight teams, with senior students stepping into the role of adjudicators.
The grand finale took place on the evening of 20th July 2025 in the Assembly Hall. The motion for the final debate was: “This House believes that Residential schools should introduce mobile phones.” What followed was a spirited exchange of ideas, arguments, and counterarguments. After a close contest, the Opposition was declared as the winning team by a 3-2 split decision from the student judges.
The event proved to be a wonderful learning experience for all participants and members of the audience who queued up to ask multiple follow-ups and offer their own thoughts. As a sweet ending to the intellectual feast, Principal Mr Ajay Singh felicitated the finalists with Swiss chocolates as a token of appreciation.
